A Third Elemental Pizza Location – Greetings to all in Downtown!

We opened our Tacoma location last year in October, and thanks to our loyal customers, we’re expanding again! A third Elemental Pizza location will be opening soon in the Columbia Center in Downtown Seattle. Special thanks to everyone at Columbia Center, Graham Baba Architects, Wilcox Construction and Smith and Greene for your help in making it all happen. And a huge thanks to everyone on the Elemental Team for your incredible energy and passion in getting this new location up and running! The new location will be set in the 3-story atrium of the Columbia Center - a bustling place during the work-week. We’re excited about this opportunity to feed more people with the quality ingredients and delicious flavors that are standard to each and every Elemental Pizza dish. This Elemental is a little different than our previous two. Instead of being waited on by a server, our guests order up at a counter and then have the choice of ordering one of our signature pizzas or building their own from a list of over 36 ingredients. It’s super fast thanks to a new oven that we fire-up over 800 degrees and perhaps the coolest feature is its rotating oven floor. Hope to see you all soon and we’re looking forward to meeting a whole new group of friends to feed. The Team at Elemental.

Building the Perfect Pizza from Scratch

When building the perfect pizza from scratch as we do, it’s important to make sure that each element of our pizzas is carefully selected, from the dough to the toppings. The Dough: We craft our dough in-house with the simple ingredients of flour, yeast, salt and water. Its flavor builds over the next couple of days as the yeast ferments, creating just the right texture and chewiness as well! The Sauce: Whether it’s our classic tomato sauce or garlic oil, or a special sauce like our BBQ, curry sauce, or pesto cream, we take pride in the fact that they are made in house! That means the ingredients have to meet our standards for freshness and flavor, and our process for crafting these delicious sauces is followed to the letter. The Meats: You’ve probably heard us highlight our vendor relationship with Zoe’s Meats, but let us just mention again how important it is for us to top our pizza’s with the finest charcuterie and meat. We’re so glad that Zoe’s has a commitment to sustainability, keeping us stocked with environment-friendly and nitrate-free product. The Veggies: From the mushrooms to the tomatoes, peppers to eggplant, and arugula to rapini, our vegetable toppings must be fresh and top-quality in order to make it through our doors. The Cheese: It’s the ingredient that ties everything together once it gets all melty and gooey, so the cheese is so important to the quality of the pizza we put before you. Our mozzarella is oh-so-fresh! And our other cheeses are selected for the best possible combination with the other toppings on your made-from-scratch pizza. If your mouth isn’t watering yet, just keep all of the above in mind as you peruse our menu. We’re pretty sure that’s more than enough to convince you to make Elemental Pizza your choice the next time you’re dining out!

Why Quality Really Matters When it Comes to Pizza Ingredients

Pizza is a very popular food! An estimated 93 percent of Americans eat at least one slice per month, and the average person eats 46 slices each year. Three billion pizzas are sold in the U.S. each year, out of 5 billion sold worldwide. With all of that pizza-eating going on, it’s really concerning that most restaurants keep their pizza ingredients secret. Many of the popular chains actually add MSG and similar flavor enhancers that have the same effect: tricking your brain and tempting you to eat more of a low-quality product. Elemental Pizza has a completely different story. We’re shameless about listing our ingredients, and if you want a detailed list of each and every item that goes into your wood fired pizza, we are more than happy to share! We start with the elements of quality and simplicity to ensure that all of our pizzas are made only with all-natural, top-notch ingredients. For example, our dough is made from just flour, yeast, salt and water! It ferments for three days to build up its delicious flavor and chewy texture. Elemental Pizza is proud to work with local providers for as many of our ingredients as possible, but regardless of where we get the goods, we stand behind them for quality. Zoe’s Meats is our provider of choice for their flavorful and nitrate-free pepperoni, ham, prosciutto, salami and more. Mama Lil’s is our supplier for delicious pickled sweet hot peppers. We work with our produce guys as well, to pick out the best fresh veggies, and source top-quality cheeses to complete the finishing flavor combination! When you nosh on a pizza at Elemental, you can rest easy that you’re consuming great ingredients in addition to enjoying the delicious flavors and naturally-addicting nature of the pizza, itself.

How to Pair Wine and Pizza

Pizza is probably one of the most unassuming foods to pair with wine. Since Elemental Pizza is based on getting down to the simplicity of quality ingredients, we are all about the non-snooty nature of this pairing! That being said, we love sharing great flavor combinations so that our guests can make the most of their experience with us, so here are some tips for how to pair wine and pizza at Elemental… Salty, cured meats like prosciutto go really well with spicy Chianti, so our Prosciutto & Arugula pizza is excellent with a glass of the Ruffino Chianti on our booze menu. Enjoy your Margherita with a Chardonnay or a medium-bodied red. Some Italian varietals such as Barbera or Garnacha are delicious with a Margherita. The moderate tannins pair really well with fresh tomatoes and herbs like basil. If you’re feeling like a glass of white wine, the Charles & Charles Chardonnay is a good pick, and if red wine is what you’re feeling, try the Portillo Malbec. Our classic pepperoni pizza is made with nitrate-free meat from Zoe’s, and compliments an Italian Primitivo and other big, full-bodied Old World red wines. Other great wines to pair with pepperoni are Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc, so your pepperoni pizza will go very nicely with the Perazzera Sara Sangiovese. Veggie pizzas pair well with wine, too! The truffled mushroom pizza goes oh-so-well with a nice earthy and spicy wine. Order yours with a glass of Mark West Pinot Noir. If the Garden Variety Elemental Pizza is your go-to, the Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc or Portillo Malbec will compliment your meal to a ‘T’. Elemental Pizza is Now Open in Tacoma

After a long wait, we’re excited to announce that a second location of Elemental Pizza is now open in Tacoma! The new spot opened on October 2nd, and has had a couple of weeks to get into the normal flow of things. You’ll find most of the same menu items, with a few changes. The menu in Tacoma has a few pizza additions, such as The Pagni Pie, with Zoe’s prosciutto, coppa, fresh mozzarella and basil on a tomato sauce base, and Mort’s Pie, with garlic oil, Italian sausage, bacon, cream cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and sliced jalapenos. We want to give a special thanks to everyone who helped get the restaurant open. None of it would have been possible without the hard work and support from our friends at UW Tacoma, Graham Baba Architects, Mortenson Construction, Smith and Greene Company and all of the subcontractors who helped put it all together. One of the things we are most excited about is the large size of the mezzanine bar in the space. Our tiny Seattle bar is probably feeling pretty jealous right now. We have 12 beers on tap with almost all of them from the local area and we plan to do a lot of brewer events in the future. When you come in, go upstairs and take a look or just grab a seat. We have plenty of TVs up there to make sure no play of any Husky or Seahawk game gets missed. Happy Hour is the same offering as we’ve had in Seattle, with discounts on a selection of appetizers, pizzas and our house-made ice cream sandwiches. It is available in the bar from 3 – 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday and all day on Sunday. Draft beers and well drinks are $3.75, house wines are $5 per glass, and signature cocktails are $1.50 off during happy hour. Visit the new Tacoma location at 1702 Pacific Avenue! Our hours are 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.  We are looking forward to serving all of you in and around Tacoma and building lifelong relationships. And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook because we will be offering specials to our fans throughout the year.

Crazy Pizza Toppings Around the World

Not all of us are cut out for the classic, favorite pizza toppings of pepperoni and cheese. Some of us have cravings and taste that’s a bit more adventurous, and pizza provides the ideal blank slate for more creative combinations. In addition to the classically-topped pizzas on our menu here at Elemental, we offer a couple of more inventive ones, such as the Curry with Chicken, the SMH Baked Potato and the Green Goddess. But those are hardly as imaginative as some of the more crazy pizza toppings around the world, as we’ve discovered… Tex Mex: Pizza with pepper jack, salsa, refried beans and avocado. Grilled Asparagus and Sun-Dried Tomatoes: Top the crust with creamy ricotta cheese, grilled asparagus, and sun-dried tomato slivers. Cheeseburger: Sprinkled cheddar cheese on top of the tomato sauce base, with grilled hamburger and red onions. Sweet and Savory: The base is smooth and creamy mashed sweet potatoes, topped with mozzarella and flavorful Soppressata cured meat. Arabian Grove: Chopped figs with rosemary and parmesan and a little bit of drizzled olive oil. Ham and Cheese Lunch: This pizza is topped with slices of ham, cheese, and Granny Smith apples with a little bit of rosemary and apricot jam. Tart and Smoked: Lemon slices are covered with a rich smoked mozzarella. Mediterranean Garden: Instead of a tomato sauce base, this pizza has a light layer of hummus, topped with grilled zucchini slices and chopped garlic (pictured). Cheesy Bacon-Broccoli: A pizza topped with cheddar, bacon and broccoli. S’mores: For dessert, top the crust with chunks of chocolate, marshmallows, and crumbled graham crackers. You’ll have to try some of the above toppings on your own for now, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to hear what kind of wacky pizza experiments you would like to create at Elemental Pizza - drop us a line! You never know…you may have something brilliant. Featured photo source: Delish.com

Best Meals for Back to School Shopping Day

We can’t believe it, but it’s already here! School starts in just a couple of weeks, so we’re now in the mad dash of back to school shopping before the first day of the school year begins. The University Village is an ideal place to go for all of your back to school needs – from supplies like notebooks and backpacks, to the latest fall apparel from your kids’ favorite shops. Back to school shopping is not the kind that you want to do ‘until you drop’, so remember to take a break and grab a bite. Elemental Pizza is the perfect place to stop, if we say so ourselves. Sure, we admit to being a bit biased, but who can complain about a fresh, hot wood-fired pizza when you’re frazzled from running around, checking things off your list? Our 12-inch pizzas make the perfect meal to refuel for more after school shopping. Go light with a choice like the Prosciutto and Arugula, or if you need a heftier spread, the BBQ Pulled Pork pie is a staff favorite that will hit the spot. All of that shopping in the late summer heat can make hot foods a little ‘too much’ to handle. That shouldn’t stop you from replenishing your energy! Order a fresh salad instead – the Rocket House is light and refreshing, and the “Caprese” salad is a summertime favorite with the classic combo of tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and greens. Not quite in the mood for a hot pizza, but a salad won’t nearly cut your hunger? Elemental’s specialty pizzas might fit the bill for that school shopping respite. Sate your hunger with a rich, flavorful Homemade Meatballs or Grilled Chicken sando, or bite into a refreshing Caesar Sa… ndwich! Wishing you luck for (and the sanity to make it through) your back to school shopping craziness!
